Forgiveness

Revenge is a word which we tend to use often, in personal matters such as broken relationships even globally when it comes to war. During such times, we are tempted to continue the conflict and pursue the chain of hate, which lies between one another. Great as the temptation may be, we all know that the best path is the one of dialogue and, yes,  forgiveness. As the gospel according to St Matthew tells us, Christ encourages each and everyone of us to seek forgiveness not only for wrongdoing but even for evil thought. Reflecting on forgiveness one might say: This is too much! But as the prophet Ezekiel reminds us; God asks nothing without first giving us the grace of a “new heart and . . . a new spirit” and putting his own spirit within us (Ezek 36:26-27).
