Our Lady of Sorrows

There she was, under the cross, looking at her Son as he suffered. She heard him say: “Forgive them Father for they don’t know what they’re doing”. Then thunder struck and her tears of sadness where joined with tears from heaven. Sadness, grief, lost…these are the emotions felt not only by Our Lady, but also by each and everyone of us at a point in our lives, at times surrounded by friends and family or at times alone. During such times defeat is word which comes to mind. But inspired by Mary, we ought to stand strong even in the face of sorrow and firm in the face of trials. As I write this reflection, a quote from Lucius Annaeus Seneca comes to mind: “A gem cannot be polished without friction, nor a man perfected without trials.”
